    - they do have a style of play: chucking.

    - the Raptors bench is so good that 2 guys that would be on a bench elsewhere are in our starting line up. That’s DEPTH, brother! ;)

    - which injury hurt us more as a team? TJ or Bosh?

Great job. I still admire all those books.

I’d have to with tj. We played through bosh’s injury and reintegrated him. Tj, not so much….

It’s easy to have lots of books, trick is reading them!

I’m not sure why there are championship expectations of the Raptors this year or in the next 5. I think it’s absurd to even use the words championship and Raptors in the same sentence. I for one will be glad to make it out of the first round and challenge in the second.

Also, I think the Raptors bench is awful. You might be giving them a little too much credit. We have a bunch of mediocre players which is often confused for depth. And yeah, point production wise Rasho should be our center but Bargnani is supposed to be our future and you HAVE to play him regardless of whether he’s stinking the shit out of the place.

Bang on about Bosh calling out the team being hypocritical. When I first read that quote, I was alarmed because it was coming off a very passive game against Denver.

Nice vidcast. You should do these more often.

True about the “championship” talk, but I don’t think that given the state of the team when Colangelo arrived and what he had to start with, a conference final should be a pipe dream 3-4 seasons later.

Now, next year will be season 3. Barring a significant trade, we are somewhat holding steady with who we have, given the extensions BC negotiated. Obviously I am talking completely out of my ass since a myriad of things can happen between now and this time next season, but I don’t see Cleveland, Boston or Detroit changing much next year, so we may be looking at a second round exit again.

The 4th year will be BC’s finest hour. Lots of possibilities, lots of hard decisions. He should have a few players playing hard in their contract years and it could be the last season we see the stalwarts together.

I am patient and never expected a championship. However, I didn’t expect regression to this extent in the course of one year either…and especially the indifference shown towards it by upper management.

Colangelo’s little statement today goes against what he said at the trade deadline, that he was happy with what he has assembled. If a lot of us saw cracks back then, why has it taken him so long to see them?

I dont know how you can say that TJ’s injury is more significant then Bosh’s. When TJ went down, JOse stepped it up and was arguably an allstar. when bosh went down nobody stepped up and the Raptors go on a huge losing streak.
I really think that the raps are a good team, but when you lose top players to injury then your whole team is effed up. Bosh, TJ and even Garbo who was playing great bball last year until his injury, these guys are crucial to success. Just picture orlando without Howard or look at LAC without Brand, teams build around players and if you take that away you struggle.
the nba isnt built like the NFL or NHL where there is always a young guy waiting to take your spot. the nba is filled with young players who jump out of high school or college too early and stink up the place. The league should have 25 teams in order to trim down the talent pool.
everyone should just relax for a second and take a look and see how far the raps have come and potentially what they are going to be

sorry guys, i wasn’t clear: kenny smith’s article was about what it takes to be a championship team. i was looking at his list, and realized that the raptors got maybe 3 of 8 points. which translates into 5 games and out in the first round. i never meant to suggest they are championship calibre…

i never had championship hopes, they all left with vc, but i can hope for an eastern conference finals can’t i? they won 47 last year, they should have done the same this year.

arse: i might be giving them the bench too much credit, but i had to embelish something, otherwise it would have been 2 points, lol. as far as bargnani being the future…you are right in that he is being given the opportunity, whether he siezes it remains to be scene. i think he can do it, but not as a 5, i see him more as a 4 in this league, read into that what you will. as far as rasho’s minutes, paying him 8 mill a year for 10 minues is as stupid as paying kapono 6 mill for a three every 6 games. the only difference is that rasho has been producing like a champ lately.

alt: agree on the conference final. they got to the playoffs last year, should have been challenging for 4th place and the 2nd round this year, next year…you get the picture.

stinky_pete: how do you explain washington? they lose arenas, a top 10 player in the league for the whole season, they lose butler, an all-star for a large chunk, and are ahead of the raptors. or the 76ers, they don’t even have an all-star. what did people have them pegged at, one of the bottom feeders in the league? can’t blame anything on injuries. i do agree on the thin talent pool in the nba tho. stern is raising the minimum age to 20 now.

i had a radical thought this morning on my drive to work:

MAYBE, this season was by design. bc couldn’t be so naive that he didn’t know this team had holes. he didn’t do much in the summer, and he didn’t do much at the trade deadline. the only thing he couldn’t count on was the injuries to bosh and tj. well, bosh always goes down, hes a fragile sweetheart, but the tj rape…

ok, so where am i going? bc’s hands were tied last season with the smitch signing. maybe, he didn’t fill the holes because he wanted smitch to fall from grace, and once the raptors get swept by orlando, he gets the ax, brings in his own coach, and fixes the raptors problems. how is that for a conspiracy theory?
